Great idea. Julian wrote some time ago about memorising good Catholic poetry. Same but different, the point for me is to stock the barn with treasures for use at particular moments of need: both crisis and contemplation.
The Psalms are an inexhaustible source of “arrows” to let fly when the devil is on the prowl. “O God come to my assistance; O Lord make haste to help me” is always appropriate. Other verses become darts of fire that fly to the Sacred Heart and bring down blessings: “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,” “Miserere mei deus, secundum magnum misericordiam tuum,” (Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy great mercy.”), “De profundis clamavi ad te Domine, Domine, exaudi vocem meam” (Out of the depths I cry to thee, O Lord, O Lord hear my voice.) are a few favorites.
